Design Manifesto
Design should help save lives. Or improve them.
Three years ago the U.S. economy was incredibly strong. But as it took a nose-dive I reassessed my own priorities and opened my eyes to all the junk we produce, sell and consume. But I always wanted to make a difference in this world – not add to the clutter of life.
The work I created, even though effective in communicating the desired client goals, didn’t always make a difference in people’s lives. But I have seen design make a difference. When I come across a project of my own, one from a fellow designer or a peer that does a great job of helping create change in our world, it reminds me of why I love to design and create. I want those projects and stories to be heard. Design can invoke a deep emotional response, improve living conditions and even help save lives. Let me show you how.
In this blog you will see how designers and studios have taken up arms to protect the world. We have organized green salons to reduce our consumption of finite world resources. Designers have created knowledge banks to show you how to do the same. Humanitarians have designed solutions for better living. Design studios are choosing clients that create equality and stand up for the oppressed. Problem solving on a national and global scale is going on right now to change the world as we know it.
If you are a designer, I encourage you to join the movement for world change. Tell me what you are doing to make the world a better place.
